It was a barking deer, a species native to South and Southeast Asia. Being informed, a forest department team went to the spot and rescued the deer. Earlier on April 23 and 24, two deer were rescued from Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur district and those were also released in the Sundarbans. On May 4, the forest department in a drive rescued 22 deer and arrested three deer poachers from the Sundarbans.
