One theme that runs through all the chapters is the use of grand deception as a legitimate strategy of Chinese diplomacy. Nonetheless, this is a fascinating aspect of Chinese diplomacy which deserves much more study. The reluctance of the Chinese leadership at the very top to get into a negotiation is not new. Direct diplomacy or leadership diplomacy has become an essential part of this. This may again perhaps be one of the weaknesses of Chinese diplomacy, because Chinese leaders are not comfortable doing that.
