On Sunday evening, a boat carrying passengers to the shore of the island Upazila of Sandwip from a larger vessel sank with approximately 40 people on board. Until Monday, rescuers pulled out five bodies and on Tuesday, nine more were found. Sandwip police OC Shamsul Islam said bodies of three, including two children were spotted on Wednesday morning near the scene of Sunday's capsize. People often travel from Chittagong to Sandwip aboard large vessels called 'sea trucks'. These vessels, however, cannot reach the shallower waters near the landings and passengers are carried across to the shore on small boats known as ‘red boats’ for their distinct colour.
