An extended deadline has been set for rates payments that were due during the Covid-19 lockdown. Palmerston North home and property owners have until Friday to pay their current rates bills without being hit with a 10 per cent penalty for late payment. That was despite the council going ahead with a public notice on August 25 stating that the penalty would apply from the end of the month. The decision to delay imposing the penalties was made after the advertisement ran. Woodman said he was angry the council had not communicated with people better about the penalty waiver and the timing of the office reopening.
