New JMB’s Rajshahi divisional military commander Azimul Islam, who was killed in an alleged gunfight with the police early Thursday, used his foster father’s house to train militants and hold meetings. Azimul alias Al Amin alias Rony was previously linked to Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami. “He became the military commander of the New JMB’s Rajshahi division in short time because of his efficiency,” OC Md Erfan of Sherpur police in Bogra said yesterday. He used to stay at his foster father Ataur Rahman’s house, which was used as a training centre of New JMB, according to police. Based on a tip-off, a team of Bogra Detective Branch and Sherpur police raided the village and found Azimul on Tuesday night.
