Libya’s outgoing prime minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh has downplayed the seriousness of the violent clashes in Zawiya, which led to the death of at least one person and the injury of several others. In a press conference at the interior ministry headquarters on Saturday, Dbeibeh did not explicitly identify the parties involved in the clashes nor did he disclose the reasons behind it. Instead, he characterized the violent incident as a “family dispute”. With Interior Minister Khaled Mazen sitting next to him, the premier also criticized that interior ministry’s “delayed” response to end the violence. Dbeibeh promised an investigation of the incident and said the ministry will take legal action.
