Davidson named new US Indo-Pacific Command chief

CAMP H.M. SMITH, Hawaii: The United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) has a new commander after a change of command ceremony in Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam on May 30. In a ceremony presided by US Secretary of Defense James Mattis, Admiral Phil Davidson relieved Admiral Harry Harris as Commander of the Indo-Pacific Command. “Admiral Phil Davidson is well-suited to operate in the complex international milieu that is the Pacific Command in the 21st Century,” he said. During the ceremony, Mattis also announced the change of name of the Pacific Command. “In recognition of the increasing connectivity between the Indian and Pacific oceans, today we rename the US Pacific Command to US Indo-Pacific Command,” he said.
