From there, they spread out to what is now south India, and from there they moved north. If we can use genetic data to date when the mixture occurred, we can show that the mixture included people of this Harappan ancestry type. So the Harappan-related ancestry is actually the single largest source population for almost all people in India today. It mixed with other groups, probably in peninsular India or the south-east as well as groups from the north. These contributed important components, but the single largest component both of northern ancestral groups and other ancestral groups is the Harappan ancestral type.
