GettyTwo dark web marketplaces have been shut down through coordinated activities involving agencies on both sides of the Atlantic, Europol announced on Friday. The Bundeskriminalamt (German Federal Criminal Police), Finnish Customs, various U.S. federal agencies and other European forces joined Europol in delivering "a double blow to dark web marketplaces." "Silkkitie is one of the oldest and internationally best-known Tor trade sites," Europol said in their online statement. As dark web sites steadily shut down and users run an increasing (albeit ironic) risk of being defrauded by the platforms themselves, the shift to open web fraud will increase. Europol has a Dark Web Team dedicated to working with international partners to "deliver a complete, coordinated approach."
