Actor Danny Masterson, best known for his role in That ’70s Show, was found guilty of two counts of rape by a jury in Los Angeles. All three women involved were members of the Church of Scientology, in which Masterson has also played an active role. The church and its leadership played a role both in Masterson’s original trial, which led to a mistrial, and at the retrial. Testimony was emotional, with all three women stating that they were intimidated and at times threatened by members of the church. Founded in 1953 by L Ron Hubbard, the Church of Scientology has many members involved in Hollywood.
