Danny Espinosa hopes 25th spot with the Jays is his opportunity

DUNEDIN, FLA.—Danny Espinosa is many things — a veteran big-leaguer, a seasoned infielder, a candidate for the 25th man on this year’s Blue Jays roster — but a spy he is not. Most than half of the 30-year-old’s at-bats this spring were for the New York Yankees but he has no inside scoops to share with Toronto, who signed Espinosa to a minor-league deal with an invite to spring training days in mid March after he was released by the Blue Jays’ American League East rivals. “I think I was still one of the new guys over there so I didn’t really get inside,” he said last week. “That kind of shortens everything, what you are able to do when you come into camp from what you were told,” Espinosa said. “I think it’s probably working out to be a good thing.”
