Our civic leaders should not capitulate to this mob with the same shameful cowardice that the Mayor of Hamilton displayed. Where did our aversion to racism, belief in the rule of law and the sovereignty of the individual come from? The monuments, both physical and cartographic, that define our landscape today are the product of those who built New Zealand and whose complex legacy we now enjoy.
