On Thursday, Getsy joined nearly 400 of the program’s interns for a celebratory luncheon at the Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas. Founded by former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert in 2008, the program celebrated its 10th anniversary, a $4.8 million total payroll and more than 2,175 participating students. “It was based on her passion, and sharing her story as a Habitat homeowner,” said Meriem Monroe, a Homeowner Services Outreach Coordinator for Habitat. "I had three top candidates until she came up to our table," Monroe said. “She’s taken the initiative because she has that perspective as a homeowner, and it’s brought a lot of fresh ideas to the organization,” Monroe said.
