Reporter Susan Lazaruk reported this week that plans could be in motion for an old nickel mine near Hope to be turned into the Giant Nickel All Season Resort. The resort would include a 10-run skill hill, resort villages, and a gondola that loads from the TransCanada Highway , which means visitors could drive two hours from Vancouver without facing winter conditions. RelatedThe ski hill’s vertical drop would be in between those seen at Whistler Blackcomb and Sun Peaks, and the cost of the project would be about $600 million. Barrick Gold Corp., which owns the mine, has already launched the process seeking approval from various stakeholders.
