Neurosurgeon Stewart Griffiths cared for Mr Williams when he was initially admitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Mr Salter said he reported at the time: "The patient stopped breathing in the ambulance and he was resuscitated in A&E. Another doctor confirmed that Mr Williams had suffered severe brain injuries, including a subdural haematoma. The incident, which took place in February 2007, left Mr Williams in a permanent vegetative state.
