Additional Superintendent Engineer of the Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED) Abul Kalam Azad will head the three-member committee. Mayor Sayeed Khokon made the announcement while visiting the spot at Dhaka's Malibagh on Monday. The girder was being lifted by a crane, and it fell as the cables snapped around 2am on Monday killing one person. The mayor mourned the death and said, quoting the LGED chief engineer, that the accident occurred despite enough precautions set at the spot. The mayor did not announce any deadline for the committee, or the amount of compensation that would be given to the victim's family.
