DOH on alert as Zika cases rise in Singapore

DOH on alert as Zika cases rise in SingaporeThe Department of Health (DOH) is now on alert as the number of Zika infection cases rise in the nearby country of Singapore. Yesterday morning, Singapore has confirmed 41 cases of locally-transmitted Zika virus. Zika infection is characterized by fever lasting from two to seven days, rashes, joint pain, or conjunctivitis. For non symptomatics, there’s no need for isolation but they’re told to contact DOH if symptoms appear in two weeks time,” the DOH chief said. Zika virus, however, became a big concern because of the birth defect – called microcephaly – that is linked to the virus.
