Linking of Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar will go a long way in reducing the cases of tax evasion in the country as it will eliminate all bogus PAN cards. Once all PANs are linked, the income-tax department will get a hang of the increasing number of duplicate PAN cards. Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has made it mandatory for all taxpayers to quote and link Aadhaar number while filing the tax return. It is being seen that PAN cards issued to non-users are increasingly being used to carry out tax evasion. Linking PAN with Aadhaar will help eliminate such cases.
