DENR cracks down on 10 business firms in BoracayBy THE MANILA TIMEShome/News/Regions/DENR cracks down on 10 business firms in BoracayTHE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) again ordered the closure of 10 establishments in Boracay, mostly owned by Chinese and Koreans, that are still operating without necessary permits. In a statement on Tuesday, Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu reiterated his call on all establishments and the people in Boracay, both local and foreign, to observe rules and regulations of the government for the complete rehabilitation of Boracay Island, which started in Oct. 26, 2018. “We cannot allow flagrant violation by foreign nationals of our country’s laws and regulations, especially on the island, which we have painstakingly rehabilitated,” Densing said. It was also observed that there had been an increasing number of Chinese and Koreans working as tour guides, restaurant chefs and staff, Bernardo added. The committee was composed of representatives from the DILG, Department of Tourism, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Labor and Employment, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Immigration, DENR and the local government of Malay, Aklan.
