Cyril Ramaphosa, the new president of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress, has embarked on a battle for the soul of the once-vaunted liberation party as he seeks the early exit of Jacob Zuma as the country’s leader. The two men’s supporters were locked in dispute last night over voting results for other positions in the party that will determine its appetite for reform, a potentially early end to Mr Zuma’s presidency and possible corruption charges against him.
