Pro cyclist Shane 'The Flying Mullet' Archbold ready to ride in Timaru's Boxing Day criterium MARK QUINLIVANDOUG FIELD/STUFF Timaru cyclist Shane Archbold shows why he is known as "The Flying Mullet". Cycling's "mullet" is flying the roads of South Canterbury again and loving it. Shane Archbold says there's no place like home, especially after a year to forget in the tough world of professional cycling. The 28-year-old, whose long ginger locks have garnered the nickname "The Flying Mullet", is a Commonwealth Games track cycling gold and bronze medallist from 2014, and will be the feature name in the Boxing Day criterium racing around Timaru's central business district. Archbold admits 2017 has been a long year, one that's been hampered by injury and saw him dropped by his world tour team, Bora Hansgrohe.
