A notorious cybercrime gang has been hit after a British and US-led police operation took control of the network’s extortion website. Lockbit, which launched a cyber attack on Britain’s Royal Mail last January, has previously been blamed for at least two attacks on the island of Ireland. In February 2023, the North’s biggest construction company Lagan Specialist Contracting Group (SCG) was targeted by the ransomware group. Also in February 2023, Lockbit conducted a ransomware attack on Dublin-based software firm ION group. Lockbit and what are called its affiliates have hit some of the biggest organisations in recent months.
