Share TweetBy Betheena Kae UniteImporters and brokers were ordered to file their declaration and valuation of goods within 15 days after their shipments arrived into the country to prevent port congestion, the Bureau of Customs said. Starting this month, goods declaration and valuation of any shipment arriving into the country should be processed within 15 days from the discharge of the cargo into the port, discouraging the extension of filing to 45 days. It added that “provisional goods declaration under Section 403 of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act shall be allowed only in meritorious cases.”The order furthered stressed that “provisional goods declaration is subject to tentative assessment of duties and taxes, which invariably leads to the detriment of the bureau.”Guerrero also ordered the examiners, appraisers, principal appraisers, deputy collectors, and district collectors to strictly comply right valuation of goods under Customs law. Aside from addressing port congestion, the order was issued in order to meet collection targets and improve the collection efficiency of the bureau.
