KUALA LUMPUR: The government has been urged to consider extending the termination period of 17,000 contractual and permanent employees, which is supposed to take effect June 16. The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) president Datuk Azih Muda said the one-month termination notice, was unreasonable especially with the festive season just around the corner. “We urge the government to extend the termination period from between three and six months so they have time to apply for jobs elsewhere, without compromising their financial situation. He added that the union also planned to hold meetings with the Prime Minister in the near future to discuss related matters. “We have sent a letter on this matter (consideration of extending notice of termination) to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, so I’m hoping for a favourable and reasonable response.
