JOHOR BARU: An immigration officer who was caught on camera assaulting an immigrant has been suspended. “The officer’s actions have tarnished the image of the department and go against the ethical code of the department and the civil service,” said Immigration Department director- general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali. Errant officers, Mustafar added, faced serious punishment, including termination of service. State Immigration Department director Datuk Rohaizi Bahari confirmed that the assault took place at the department’s enforcement division office at Wisma Pesekutuan here at 9am today. The officer then punched the immigrant’s hand several times and motioned to him to not move his hand.
