Covid-19 infections in the UK have fallen to their lowest level for two months, in fresh evidence the current wave of the virus is receding, figures show. Sarah Crofts, head of analytical outputs for the ONS Covid-19 infection survey, said: “Infections have continued to fall across much of the UK to levels last seen in mid-June. “Our latest data show these decreases are among nearly all ages in England, with the lowest levels seen among children. This was not as steep as the record 4.9 million infections at the peak of the Omicron BA.2 wave in late March, however. Dr Mary Ramsay, director of clinical programmes at the UK Health Security Agency, said: “It’s very encouraging that Covid-19 case rates and hospitalisations are now at low levels.
