Ah, the great dichotomy of wellness travel during the Covid-19 era. Pre-pandemic, wellness tourism globally was estimated to be worth around US$639 billion (NZ$891billion), according to US-based not-for-profit The Global Wellness Institute. I reached out to Resolution Retreats, a women-only health and wellness retreat in Karapiro that I had attended earlier in the year. Aro Ha wellness architect Damian Chaparro said Covid is a terrible affliction, they believe in the value of vaccinations, but also an individual’s right to choose their medical interventions. Supplied Wellness retreats like Aro Ha are faced with the challenge of balancing government guidelines with values of non-judgement towards individuals.
