There have been 16,399 new Covid-19 cases reported across New Zealand in the past week – up from 14,311 last week. The seven-day rolling average of new daily cases is 2343, an increase on last week when it was 2041, the Ministry of Health reported. As of midnight on Monday, there were 243 cases in hospital and six cases in intensive care. Community Covid-19 cases have been slowly climbing over recent weeks and new Omicron subvariants have been detected in the country. In the week ending October 16, there was a “jump” in community Covid-19 cases of approximately 25% – though from a relatively low base of cases.
