He was included in the playing eleven against Lanka essentially because the team management was preparing for the series against South Africa, which starts next week. Either one would have been extremely close to being on the flight to South Africa for the Tests. Indeed, had he returned earlier and there was greater evidence of his form, he might well have been headed for South Africa.
