Students want the Palmerston North City Council to move faster in adopting electric vehicles and reducing use of plastics in a bid to halt the progress of climate change. And Freyberg High School students Hannah Spillane and Fia Ryan also want the council to connect better with young people about what they are doing. The year 10 students presented a petition to the city council on Monday on behalf of 522 signatories. They said 20 per cent of New Zealand's greenhouse emissions came from transport, and the council could help by switching to electric vehicles. And Cr Rachel Bowen said the council needed to get better at connecting with young leaders who had important things to say.
