The objections are threefold over the slow speed of work, contractors transporting more debris and less silt and pilling the cleaned silt on the city's streets. The administration reports that 50 per cent desilting work of the 276 km major nullahs has been completed. However, in the BMC general body meeting nullah cleaning discussion turned into a free for all slugfest match. "In Byculla, all the desilting work is only on paper and log-sheet, but there isn't any desilting done in the underground gutter which will choke it," said Rais Shaikh, group leader of the Samajwadi Party. There are 714 km nullahs in the city out of which 276 km nullahs are big nullahs.
