Coronavirus: military can now tell returnees to stay in their room

The Government has given Defence Force personnel at managed isolation and quarantine hotels more enforcement powers. Those powers include the ability to give directions, for example telling returnees to stay in their rooms, or request identification. POOL Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern boosts military staff numbers at Covid-19 isolation facilities. Before extending powers to Defence Force personnel the director general had already authorised Worksafe inspectors, Aviation Security officers and Customs officers as enforcement officers under the Act. A Ministry of Health spokeswoman said the same sections apply to Defence Force staff.
