Though the vast majority of coronavirus cases have been in China, where hundreds of people have died and thousands more have been diagnosed, public health officials in the United States are racing to stop the disease from spreading widely in this country. As of Monday afternoon, 11 cases of coronavirus had been confirmed in five states, and officials were awaiting test results on dozens more possible cases. California has had the most cases. Most of the coronavirus cases have been in the western United States, including six in California. Officials in Washington State, Arizona and Massachusetts each reported one diagnosis, and Illinois has announced two cases.
