I’m a critical care nurse, and we were coming off the back of the winter pressure, so we were all very busy and feeling tired, but no more than usual. I thought I’m just going to document how I’m feeling right now – I was anxious, exhausted and bewildered and my first instinct was, ‘I’m going to share this’. In a typical day in intensive care you may have one patient who’s really, really sick, but during Covid every patient was incredibly unwell and critical care nurses were thin on the ground. Ideally, it’s one nurse per patient – we were one nurse to three patients and working with people who’d never worked in critical care. I’m a critical care nurse and I’ve just finished 48 hours of work and I just wanted to get some stuff in for the next 48 hours.
