Coronavirus: Community groups impacted as gaming funds dry up


A halt on gambling during Covid-19 lockdown will see community groups miss out on millions of dollars worth of funding. But gaming societies are not allowed to carry reserves, so they have had to suspend funding applications. Of that figure, gaming societies gave $341million, with the bulk of the funding provided to sports groups, followed by community groups. McCabe said funders are currently giving money for things they wouldn't normally fund, such as technology for community groups having to work from home. TSB Community Trust has made the decision to continue funding as usual despite not currently receiving funds from bank dividends.
