Cornell University Business College Dean Abruptly Resigns

The dean of Cornell University’s business college abruptly resigned on Tuesday, less than two years after assuming the role. Soumitra Dutta, dean of the SC Johnson College of Business, submitted his resignation to Cornell, Joel Malina, vice president for university relations, said in a statement. A Cornell spokesperson, John Carberry, declined to give any reason for Dutta’s resignation, saying the University had no additional comment at this time. Joe Thomas, who served as dean of the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management from 2007 to 2012, will lead the college on an interim basis, Malina said. Dutta previously served as the dean of the Johnson Graduate School of Management and had given no indication that he was considering leaving the University.
