On Thursday, the government formed a joint committee to deal with the stalemate but the Cord coalition rejected the proposal . Talks between Cord and Jubilee have reached a deadlock after Cord rejected President Uhuru Kenyatta's proposal to discuss electoral reforms. Cord intends to continue its protests, even after the government's directive banning demonstrations. The coalition had threatened to increase the number of its weekly protests against the IEBC if the government does not heed dialogue calls. The opposition wants the IEBC commissioners to be removed from office before the 2017 general elections citing lack of trust.
