Living with disabilities and a water shortage is difficult for Waitakere resident Vladimir Muzyka, who has had to order five truckloads of water. And this summer the reality of living with a water tank that runs dry has hit home in a big way – "Everybody starts to stink," he says. He cares for his adult son who has schizophrenia and serious bowel problems that lead to frequent diarrhea, which means the household washing machine does extra duty cleaning clothes and bed linen. LAWRENCE SMITH/HOMED Muzyka puts a brave face on the challenges of coping without water while needing to be able to use the washing machine and shower. LAWRENCE SMITH/HOMED Muzyka clears out a trap where water and leaf mould collects.
