In Buddhism, the concept of “Right Speech” includes abstaining from false speech, slanderous speech, and harsh speech. Are you speaking truth to power, giving voice to people who otherwise might be ignored? And I would argue it’s even important to speak up in things like sports, when an institution disregards international rules. In these situations, we need to speak up, even if the accusations are eventually found out to be untrue. The advice to “speak good or remain silent” cannot mean that we should never criticise.
