Construction of the Tk8.5 thousand crore multi-lane tunnel under the Karnaphuli River is expected to begin next month. Earlier, on August 24, 2016 , foreign ministry sources had said that construction was likely to begin on October 10 this year. The construction of necessary infrastructure, including residences for Chinese engineers and related employees, has almost been completed, Engineer Kabir said. “The feasibility study and acquisition process for 1,100 acres of land for the tunnel have also been completed,” he added.
