Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday (March 29, 2026) slammed Congress for encouraging infiltration and changing the demography in nine districts of Assam, including Dhubri, where Muslims are more than 74% of the population. We have to drive out those who have already infiltrated,” Mr. Shah said. Mr. Shah cited the allegedly pro-immigrants Illegal Migrants (Determination by Tribunals) Act of 1983 as an example of how Congress fanned infiltration. He insisted that only the BJP could ensure jobs for Assam’s youth in their home State. Mr. Shah also slammed Congress for ignoring the contributions of former Chief Minister Gopinath Bordoloi and music maestro Bhupen Hazarika.
