A press conference was held Wednesday at the Press Syndicate, voicing rejection of the state’s recent measure of blocking over 20 news websites. The conference was held by several editors-in-chief of blocked news websites and several members of the syndicate’s board council. Four council members had released a statement on Monday, expressing full rejection of the recent block of a number of Egyptian news websites by security institutions. On 24 May, media outlets reported that 22 websites were blocked, announced through the state news agency, reportedly by unnamed security sources. It was not, however, explained how Egyptian websites ended up on the blocking list.
