MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Leila de Lima asked the Senate to conduct a “comprehensive” probe into the alleged involvement of Chinese businessman Michael Yang in the country’s illegal drug trade. “A comprehensive probe into Mr. Yang’s alleged link to the illegal drug trade is imperative, as accountability must be sought given his official, high-level capacity as former presidential economic adviser,” De Lima said. Malacañang, however, said that Yang is not involved in the illegal drug trade. “It has been clarified… Even the [Chinese] ambassador has cleared Michael Yang. In fact, he was telling me personally… I will never associate myself with one who is involved in drugs,” presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said Monday.
