A company has been fined $194,000 for falsely claiming that its duvets were "pure alpaca wool" or "100 per cent cashmere". Company manager Kevin Stocker was fined $20,187 on six charges and director Koo Yoarn Lee was fined $14,750 on six charges. Independent tests showed the "alpaca duvets" in fact contained between 9 and 17 per cent alpaca wool with the remainder being sheep wool. The "cashmere duvets" were made entirely of sheep wool, Horrocks said. Alpaca wool commands high prices due to its anti-microbial qualities and resistance to piling, stains and wrinkles.
