The bus driver allegedly ignored the warning signals when he crossed the rail tracks and was rammed by the train piloted by Nguyen Dinh Sang on the North-South route at roughly 3:58am. The fire was quickly extinguished and the train continued on its route after several hours of repair work. The driver of the tractor trailer that struck and killed the couple was identified as Nguyen Duy Ty. Hung and Tam were killed instantly and pronounced dead at the scene, police officers reported.
