They no longer peddle miracle cures village-to-village by horse-pulled wagon, but their tactics still range from disreputable to detestable. Technology might have rung the death-knell for door-to-door encyclopedia sellers, but a wide range of over-priced, under-performing, over-hyped or unnecessary products are still being pushed. There is money to be made from naive younger people and immigrants used to a simpler village-style life, too. In Nelson a 78-year-old woman was "persuaded" to insulate her home at what appears to be a highly inflated price.
