Coimbatore and the German city Esslingen on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in various spheres of city administration. The journey started in 2008 when the two cities signed a treaty of friendship and since then the two had made progress, the newspaper said. It was a first of its kind agreement for an Indian city with a German one. Twinning with Coimbatore was for international understanding, mutual respect – of religions and cultures, the news paper said quoting the Esslinger Mayor Mr. Zieger. The visiting Indian delegation visited Georgii Gymnasium and Zollberg-Realschule, a school that was already into an agreement with a city school.
