KOTA KINABALU: A 20-year-old man offering an endangered pangolin for sale through social media was arrested during a sting operation by the Sabah Wildlife Department. A four-man enforcement team from the department seized the pangolin from the boot of a car driven by the man, a coconut seller who had apparently tried to sell the animal via a Whatsapp chat group - Jual Beli Swap Binatang. “Upon inspection, the team found a live pangolin in the boot of the sedan car,” he said, adding that both the pangolin and the car were seized by the department to facilitate further investigations. “The department strives to do the best possible even though we have very limited capacity,” he added. He said pangolin is listed as a fully protected animal in Part I of Schedule I of the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.
