The Palace closed in the 1940s and in 1959 the Picture House was demolished to make space for a supermarket. Deutsch planned it as another Picture House, but the existing Birchfield Picture House objected. When Odeon’s flagship cinema opened in Leicester Square in 1937, Weedon’s design was featured as a silhouette on the cover.
