Kim Jong-nam, the elder half-brother of North Korea’s supreme leader, was murdered in February 2017. Siti Aisyah, 26, from Indonesia, had faced a mandatory death penalty if convicted of the murder. The decision to drop the case against her, apparently following representations from the Indonesian government, also appears to undermine the basis of the case against her co-defendant, a 30-year old Vietnamese woman named Doan Thi Huong. The two women embraced in the dock after the decision was announced.
